A small digression about Windows and Linux. Here’s the thing: Windows is a combination of the system kernel as well as the service programs and scripts that perform certain operations and tasks. On this OS you have no right to change or delete scripts and system software…

For example, when you change the cursor on Windows, the work of changing the cursor is done by a script that is already in the system by default. The script has a graphical interface (a separate program) which is also the default and which cannot be selected, changed or deleted. You press the button (GUI), launch the script and the cursor changes. For Windows, there is one variant of the cursor changer program. That’s it. You have no right to change it.

On Linux there are many programs like this, for example graphical environments for Linux. I only know about a dozen of them. It’s the same for all the other programs. You choose which programs you want to use. But the point is that Linux gives you complete freedom. So you choose and install it yourself. You want to see bare Windows, look at DOS. Comfortable?

So if you don’t have it, you need to look for a solution and install it yourself. If you don’t have it, you have to write it or ask an enthusiast for it. Linux is a construction kit, you have to take it for granted if you are going to use it. There are builds like Ubuntu, where a lot of things are already bolted on, but they also bolted on a lot of unnecessary things to please everyone. And they forgot to ask YOU what you need. Therefore when using such assemblies we often have questions like How to remove everything unnecessary?

Think about it: when you were a kid bought a car (for example) and you were happy, because you got what you wanted. You had no complaints. Now think of children’s designers, no matter what, Lego, iron with bolts, etc.. You wanted a construction set, they bought it for you. You played with it, you collected something, whatever you wanted. Did you have any complaints about the construction set, that it wasn’t a remote-controlled car? Is a remote control car and a box with a construction set the same thing? No guys, they are different toys!

Linux is basically a construction set. And if you find a build where the car has five wheels, don’t be too quick to complain about the author. It just seemed more convenient to him. He cannot know what is more convenient for you, he is judging by himself. If you do not like the fifth wheel – turn it away. And in general, if you want everything to work perfectly, remember the saying: If you want to make it good, do it yourself!

Conclusion and arguments for Linux
You choose if you want more comfort and convenience or if you want more freedom of action. Alas, you can’t have both at the same time due to ideological reasons of the creators of these operating systems. And to make it easier to decide, you can watch a video on the topic of the article. In the video I try to install the problematic software on both operating systems. This being said Windows is treacherously silent while Linux gives me a lot of information:

Other operating systems
Of course the world of computers does not end with Windows and Linux. There is also the not unknown MacOS. But it is too posh and expensive, with its own set of software, hardware, ideology and is not suitable for everyone. It’s not the only one. There are quite a few other operating systems for various platforms, both commercial and free (free):

FreeDOS
BeOS
Haiku (free BeOS flavors)
eComStation (OS/2)
FreeBSD
Linux
ReactOS
Chromium OS
etc…

Most of the entries on the list are the successors to the UNIX operating system, not direct, but using the principles of its predecessor. Some of them are: FreeDOS, a free clone of the famous MSDOS (the forerunner of Windows) and ReactOS, a project based on the desire to make a free compatible analogue of Windows.

Chromium OS is also interesting, a good example of a next generation web-based operating system. Although I don’t think it’s a good idea to store all your data in the cloud. But undoubtedly there is already an army of fans of this approach and it is growing.
